Ahh, new things!

Today, we got our first print copy of Issue #1 in the mail! It's the very first print copy to ever be made, so we are pretty excited about it!

We know that the prints are a little pricey. This one costs us around $20 with shipping and handling. But, don't worry. We aren't exactly meant to be a print magazine. Our e-copies are only $3.99, and if you subscribe (which is free) you will receive 12 issues for free. But you have to subscribe now!

We are starting work on our 2nd issue, in which we will feature Rasheed Lowery, an up-and-coming singer/songwriter in the Ada area. Also, he's amazing. There has been talk of Rasheed joining the HMA family, and hopefully will be opening for Dirty Derringer sometime soon!

And Speaking of HMA... here is their live music schedule for July. You can also find their schedule in our magazine!

We hope to get out a little more, now that one of our creators has a little more spare time, and see some of the local happenings in person. We hope to bring you pictures, and videos, and more local artsy news.

Here's a video if you need a fix. It was taken at Joey's birthday party at Vintage 22 on July 5th. They had an open mic night for the event and we think the turn-out was awesome. The video is a first time collaberation between Dirty Derringer, Schrodie's Muse' Jeremiah Hamilton, and Bryson Vann.

That's $60 worth of issues for free!

1. While reading the magazine online on your computer, go back to the cover page and look to the left in the eReader. There will be a small subscribe tab in which you can click on. (This is the easiest way to subscribe, I think.)
2.You can go here: Folkabilly Newsstand (click on the words to your left) on your computer or your mobile and hit the subscribe button. You can also share from there to just about any social media platform.
3. You can download the JooMag app on your ipad or iphone. Search for the magazine and subscribe from the app. (For Ipad and Iphone users only.)

You will also be able to browse other JooMag emags and subscribe to them as well. The Start of Something New

Hello Everyone! We're so glad you stopped by!

As you all know, Josef (Joey) and Tessa House have been working in publishing and writing for several years now. They have several books published and a couple short stories as well, and they have decided that since they are already published authors with their own publishing company, BB Books, why not start an online magazine as well?!

BB Books is excited to offer something new to their list of their wonderful campaign, and we hope that you will enjoy it as well!

Folkabilly Magazine was the brain child of Tessa House, and it has flourished into something spectacular. As musicians, as well as authors, publishers, editors, artists, and, well, the list goes on and on with creativity, Tessa and Joey wanted to bring the spotlight to local Ada Arts & Entertainment. With the uprising of live events all over the Ada area, they felt like local newspapers and magazines weren't doing the Arts justice, and with that, they vowed to bring it to the people of Ada. Folkabilly will not only focus on music, but will include artists, painters, sculptors, producers, writers, directors, bloggers, designers, and anything else that is hand-made or hand-played.

"We want the people of Ada to have a place to go to when they want to know what's going on with the Arts in Ada. They can just open up the magazine and find a local event they can attend during the month, or learn a little more about our local artists by reading the spotlight features. If they want to find a great local album to start listening to, or if they want to find out about a new venue or art store, it's all right there in the magazine," says Tessa House."We want Ada to go a little retro with the new technology we have today. In the 90's, live music was all the craze and a typical night out included food and a good live band. So, we want people to use the technology of today to find things to do socially outside of technology. Instead of sitting at home and playing XBox or Farmville on your phones, find out what's going on in Ada and get out and about. Support live music by being there, cheering the band on. Support hand-made products by getting out and buying them. Go to an art show. Go to a play. Use your technology to share these experiences with others, and invite them to join you next time."

BB Books is currently working on the first Issue, which will release at the end of June. If you have a talent and would like to be featured in one of our issues, or you would like to promote your business with ad space in our magazine, please contact us at thetessahouse@gmail.com. If you believe yourself to be the fan of the month (whether music fan or art show fan... maybe even a comic con junky) please submit your photo along with a short description and we may consider you to be our Fan of the Month and will have a one page feature in Folkabilly Magazine. If you would like your local music album (no matter the genre) to be highlighted in our magazine, please contact us as well with the details.

We would also love to know what's going on! If you have arts & entertainment events coming up and you would like those dates in the mag, please email us with the details.

We hope that you enjoy Folkabilly magazine! If you haven't 'liked' us yet on Facebook, please do! www.facebook.com/FolkabillyMagazine

Check out Dirty Derringer!

Dirty Derringer is a folk/rock/Americana/country/pop/rockabilly band in Ada, Oklahoma. They consider themselves a melting-pot of music, since they normally don't stick to just one genre. Each member has their own tastes in music, and it shows in individual performances. Together, they find a happy medium. They take songs from each genre that they all love, and those are the songs they cover together.

Dirty Derringer features Tessa & Joey House, and Thomas Rand, radiant up-and-coming singer-songwriters blazing across today’s contemporary folk music scene. With a fusion of purifying emotional sound and skillful delivery, they have been compared to the likes of The Civil Wars. Making appearances all over South East Oklahoma, whether together or individually, Dirty Derringer delights crowds with their acoustic guitar twang and wailing performances of classic and modern country, pop, red dirt , classic rock, Americana, rockabilly, folk and 90's rock, and some of their own original songs. They have yet to enter the recording studio, but there are hopes to do so in the near future.

Joey House was born in Texas in 1984, but moved to Ada, Oklahoma at around the age of 8. He grew up on a fish farm right outside the small town of Connerville, Oklahoma. He began playing instruments at a young age as well, playing in the school band. He ended up being able to play almost any horn or stringed instrument  which lead to the acoustic guitar. He attended ECU on a music scholarship in music education after he graduated high school.

Before being a part of Dirty Derringer, Joey was the front man for another local band, Youth Uninspired, which was a punk rock band and covered songs by Blink 182, among others. Youth Uninspired recorded an album together, which featured Joey's vocal and guitar talent. Other members included Nathan Hurley. He was also a part of GoFreak, which was the first off-campus band he was a member of. Other members included Justin Lofton. Joey's musical influences- classic rock, punk rock, and rock in general- include: Tenacious D, 90's rock bands, Foreigner,  Flogging Molly, and many more. Joey began playing solo at The Statesman's Lounge in 2005, and played there for four years until he moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After a year, he moved back and began playing at the same bar again in early 2011.

Tessa House was born in 1986 in Ada, Oklahoma. She has been in Ada the entirety of her life so far. She has been singing publicly since she was very young, and made her largest debut in her school talent show her sophomore year of high school. She cam in fourth place behind Shawn White and Leah Barbata. Since then, her vocal performances have progressed extensively, starting with the National Anthem at school sports games, music competitions, and for the Chickasaw Nation when they sponsor large events. She has been featured in The Colgate Country Showdown, Ada Idol, Moore Love, and the McSwain Theater, all of Ada, Oklahoma. She was also featured on a portion of 105.5 FM's local talent slot, where they interviewed her and played one of her recorded tracks on the station. This was the first time she had ever had a track played on the radio.

Tessa took guitar lessons when she was 15, but soon took on learning on her own. She has written a few songs to her credit, but doesn't deem them worthy of show performances. She began playing the guitar with her uncle, Jimmy Tignor, around 2008, who taught her a lot about performing live while incorporating the guitar and helped her improve her guitar skills. Along with Jimmy, she played with Tom Schultz, and they formed The Red Barn Band. They played around Ada at fairs, the Ada Elks Lodge, and benefits, mostly. She was still playing with The Red Barn Band when she started going out on her own and playing at local bars in early 2010.

She met her husband, Joey, when she began playing at The Statesman's Lounge in early 2011, where he too was playing. They came together musically when Joey began giving her guitar lessons and teaching her to hone her talents. They became romantically involved only a few lessons in. They were married on October 27th, 2012. Tessa's musical influences- classic rock, classic country, red dirt, folk, pop, contemporary country- include: Miranda Lambert, Jewel, Journey, The Civil Wars, Heart, and many more.

Joey, the night he and Tessa met, plays Tessa's guitar during her break. The rest is history!
With Joey's rock edge and Tessa's country swagger, Dirty Derringer has evolved into something truly incredible... folk-rock, or Folkabilly, as they like to call it. Pulling from all genres of music and weaving their own acoustic take on well known songs, they create a magical sound that can't be matched or imitated within the local live music scene of Ada, Oklahoma.
